Guide 6: Loot, Affixes & God-Gear (Apotheosis)
Apotheosis is why your sword has purple text and six stat lines. It quietly overhauls loot, enchanting, and spawners — and it’s the pack’s core gear-progression system, whether you play fighter, wizard, or engineer. Nothing about it is explained in-game. This is that explanation.
Affix items: the Diablo layer
Weapons and armor in loot can roll as affix items with a rarity color and random bonus stats (affixes): extra damage types, life steal, dodge, armor shred, and dozens more.
- Rarities: Common → Uncommon → Rare → Epic → Mythic (plus extra tiers from Apotheotic Additions). Higher rarity = more and stronger affixes.
- Affix gear drops from mobs (especially the glowing apothic minibosses you’ll meet in the wild — they’re tough but drop the good stuff), dungeon chests, and treasure.
- Read your tooltips. A Rare iron sword with good affixes routinely beats a plain diamond one.
The gear-improvement loop
Three stations turn trash drops into your build:
- Salvaging Table — grind unwanted affix gear into rarity materials (common dust up to mythic essence). Never toss affix loot; salvage it.
- Reforging Table — spend rarity materials + gems/levels to reroll an item’s affixes. This is the endgame slot machine: keep your favorite weapon and reroll until its stats sing.
- Smithing Table (socketing) — gems drop from mobs across the world, each giving a socketable bonus (attack, health, mana for wizards, etc.). Combine an item with a gem to socket it. Gems come in quality grades — socket the high-grade ones and crush the spares into gem dust, which reforging consumes (JEI shows the exact recipes).
Practical loop: fight → salvage the junk → socket and reforge your keepers → fight bigger things.
Enchanting is a whole new game
The vanilla table now has three hidden stats — Eterna (max level), Quanta (randomness), and Arcana (quality/rare enchants) — determined by what you build around the table.
- Bookshelves are just the start: Hellshelves (nether), Seashelves, Infused shelves, and higher-tier shelves each push different stats. JEI shows each shelf’s numbers; hover the table’s GUI stats to see your setup’s totals.
- Enchantments go beyond vanilla caps (Sharpness VII+, etc.) with the right setup.
- Infusion enchanting: certain materials are “enchanted” themselves at specific stat thresholds to transform into new items (this is how some shelves and materials are made). If a JEI recipe says “Infusion”, it means the enchanting table.
- The Library of Alexandria (enchantment library) stores enchantments off books and lets you withdraw exactly the ones you want. Build one; it ends the book-clutter problem forever.
Spawners are now loot
Silk-touch a spawner and it’s yours. Apotheosis lets you modify spawners by right-clicking items onto them: comparators, sugar, clocks, dragon eggs and more each tweak a stat (speed, count, player-ignore, silence). JEI → search “spawner” shows every modifier. A captured spawner + Mob Grinding Utils fans = your XP and drops farm.
Practical priorities
- Early: keep any Rare+ drop in your slots even if the base item is worse. Build a Salvaging Table the same week you build a base.
- Mid: 4-shelf enchanting corner with hellshelves; first sockets on your main weapon; start a gem chest sorted by type.
- Late: max-stat enchanting room, Mythic reforges on endgame gear, spawner farm feeding the enchantment library via Create Enchantment Industry (Guide 3) if you want full automation.
Starter goals
- Salvaging Table + Reforging Table placed at base
- First gem socketed
- Enchanting corner with at least one hellshelf tier
- Library of Alexandria running
- A Mythic-reforged main weapon (the long game)
Sources & further reading
- The Chronicle of Shadows (in-game book) — Apotheosis ships its own official manual; craft it (JEI: “Chronicle of Shadows”) or check your starting book. It documents every module — affixes, shelves, spawner modifiers — from the mod author directly, for exactly our version. This is the primary source.
